The Greenhouse: A Year-Round Hub for Growth, Innovation & Education
The Greenhouse is more than just a place to grow food—it’s a living model of sustainability, agricultural innovation, and hands-on education.Designed to produce crops year-round, it will provide resident farmers with fresh, local food in every season while serving as a laboratory for cutting-edge farming techniques.
Here, we will explore space-efficient, sustainable growing methods such as:
Aquaponics & Hydroponics – Harnessing water-based growing systems that maximize efficiency and minimize waste.
Vertical & high-density farming – Optimizing space to increase yields in small-scale farming.
Climate-controlled crop production – Ensuring fresh, nutritious food is available throughout the seasons.
This isn’t just a Greenhouse—it’s a model for the future of resilient, small-scale agriculture.
A Living Classroom for Farmers & Students Alike
Through partnerships with university extension programs and agricultural experts, The Greenhouse will host research trials, cooperative education, and hands-on training in next-generation farming techniques.
Beyond supporting our resident farmers, The Greenhouse will serve as an interactive classroom, where students can:
Experience hands-on learning – Connecting science, sustainability, and food production.
Engage in farm-to-school CSA partnerships – Bringing fresh, locally grown produce into school meal programs.
See the full food cycle in action – From seed to table, fostering a deep understanding of where food comes from.
By weaving agriculture into education, we’re inspiring a new generation to embrace sustainability, food security, and farm-driven innovation.
Community Engagement
While primarily dedicated to supporting our resident farmers and research programs, The Greenhouse will occasionally open its doors to the public for select tours and workshops. These experiences will allow visitors to:
Explore alternative farming methods – Learning about aquaponics, hydroponics, and year-round food production.
See sustainability in action – Understanding how regenerative agriculture works on a small-farm scale.
Get inspired – Encouraging families, educators, and aspiring farmers to bring these principles into their own lives.
Through education, outreach, and real-world research, The Greenhouse will be a symbol of innovation, a resource for learning, and a vital piece of our sustainable farm ecosystem.
Together, we’re planting the seeds for a greener, healthier future—one harvest, one experiment, and one lesson at a time.
A Buzzing Hub of Sustainability & Conservation
At Project Farmland, sustainability isn’t just about growing food—it’s about supporting the entire ecosystem that makes farming possible. Our apiculture initiative will weave beekeeping into the fabric of our farm community, creating a thriving pollinator habitat that enhances biodiversity, strengthens crop yields, and deepens our connection to nature. The hum of bees will be a sign of a thriving, interconnected farm ecosystem—where agriculture works with nature, not against it.
By integrating apiculture into our farm model, we are creating a sanctuary for pollinators, fostering a deeper respect for biodiversity, and contributing to the global effort to protect these vital species.
Healthy bees. Thriving farms. A sweeter, more sustainable future.
Healthy bees mean healthy farms. By nurturing hives throughout Project Farmland, our bees will:
Pollinate crops & wildflowers – Supporting fruit, vegetable, and native plant growth.
Increase biodiversity – Creating a more balanced, resilient farm ecosystem.
Produce pure, local honey – A delicious, artisanal product available at The Barn giving visitors a taste of pure, small-batch, farm-raised honey.
This initiative will not only benefit our farmers but will serve as a model of sustainable, bee-friendly agriculture.
Regenerating Soil, Capturing Carbon, and Cultivating Sustainability
Using the process of pyrolysis, we will convert agricultural waste, tree trimmings, and scrap materials into BioChar—a highly porous carbon that:
Locks in nutrients & water – Reducing reliance on synthetic fertilizers.
Enhances soil structure – Creating an optimal environment for microbial life.
Sequesters carbon – Capturing carbon in the soil rather than releasing it into the atmosphere.
Boosts plant productivity – Improving crop resilience, root development, and overall soil fertility.
By incorporating BioChar into our farming practices, we are building healthier soil, reducing waste, and making a meaningful contribution to environmental sustainability
A Sustainable Resource for Farmers & Gardeners
BioChar isn’t just for our resident farmers—it’s for the entire community. Available for purchase at The Barn, BioChar will provide gardeners, homesteaders, and local farmers with an eco-friendly way to improve soil health, enhance water retention and support organic growing methods.
Closing the Loop: A Farm Built on Regeneration
By transforming agricultural by-products into a long-lasting soil enhancer, we are creating a system that continuously nourishes the land—one harvest at a time. Making BioChar accessible, we’re empowering our neighbors to embrace sustainable gardening practices and be part of a larger movement toward regenerative agriculture.
U-Pick at Project Farmland will be our community orchard, home to an array of peaches, apples, cherries, and diverse berry bushes, ready for a U-Pick experience. This orchard will invite visitors to enjoy an experience that transcends mere picking; it's a celebration of community, sustainability, and the cyclical beauty of nature.
Unpicked fruits find a second purpose. Unpicked fruit will be fed to our farm animals, used in compost and for fueling our vermiculture efforts, ensuring nothing goes to waste. Prunings from seasonal care are transformed through our BioChar operation, becoming nutrient-rich soil amendments that circle back to the earth, enriching the very ground that supports this vibrant ecosystem. This cycle of growth, harvest, and renewal fosters deep connections among us, to the land, and showcases our commitment to a sustainable, waste-free philosophy.
In this lively orchard, every visit becomes an opportunity to create lasting memories, deepen our appreciation for nature, and contribute to a holistic cycle of nurturing and growth.
A space will be set aside for a few tiny homes for use as Air BNB’s run by Project Farmland. These cozy tiny homes offer guests an immersive experience of sustainable living. More than just a stay, it's an invitation to partake in the rhythms of farm community life.
This initiative will not only generate income to support Project Farmland's vision but also open doors for visitors to explore the principles of sustainable living firsthand. Through their stay, guests will be encouraged to engage with the land, participate in farm activities, and learn about the cycles of growth and renewal that define life here.
In this way, the tiny homes at Project Farmland are more than just accommodations; they are gateways to understanding and appreciating the beauty and importance of sustainable, community-focused living.
